Lauren TS #18
Tutoring Session #18
Date/Time: Wednesday, August 6th, 6:30-7:30pm
Location: Online
Session Summary:
To start the session, I asked some introduction questions: What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? and What is making you happy recently?
For the pre-reading activity, I wanted to activate prior knowledge about the subject of "circumnavigation", so I asked what Rider thought the definition of circumnavigation might be and if he's ever given a thought to this idea. Then, I asked him to think of possible definitions to the list of vocabulary words from the video. After, we watched a five minute video about the history of circumnavigation.
For the reading activity, Rider read a passage about a man setting sail to circumnavigate the world. After reading, I asked Rider what words or phrases were unfamiliar and asked guiding questions to aid his comprehension.
For the post-reading activity, I asked comprehension questions in a quiz format, with multiple choice, literal, and open-ended questions.
Lessons Learned about Teaching:
