Lauren TS #16
Tutoring Session #16
Date/Time: Tuesday, August 5th, 5-6pm
Location: Online
Session Summary:
I started the session by asking some icebreaker questions: Name two things you have missed about being away this summer and Name two things you will miss about Tallahassee.
Then, I introduced the concept of a "personal narrative" and explained that we would be practicing writing personal narratives.
For the pre-writing activity, I modeled how to write a personal narrative and gave simple instructions for each step.
After, for the writing activity, I gave a prompt: Weather affects people in different ways around the globe. Think about a time when the weather has had a significant impact on your life. Write a story sharing your experience.
With my help, Rider brainstormed the setting, characters, and plot on our Google Doc. Then, he wrote a short personal narrative. After, we edited his writing.
Lessons Learned about Teaching:
Even if students are able to demonstrate comprehension, writing is a very different skill that should be practiced with considerable attention.
