Lauren TS #14
Tutoring Session #14
Date: Wednesday, July 30th
Session Summary:
I started this session by asking some icebreaker questions to build rapport: What are two things you are good at? and What are two things you want to improve on?
For our pre-listening activity, I showed images of cheesecake, graham crackers, and a bandit to have Rider predict what the clip from Friends could be about.
For our listening activity, we watched "The Cheesecake Bandit" clip from Friends. First, we watched it all the way through. Then, I paused when I thought there was unfamiliar vocabulary and checked for comprehension.
For our post-listening activity, I asked some literal comprehension questions, some inferential, and others based on opinion.
Lessons Learned About Teaching:
There is a lot of linguistic and cultural knowledge in any sitcom or TV show, it just takes preparation for it to be useful.
