Lauren TS #13
Tutoring Session #13
Date/Time: Monday, July 28th
Location: Student Union
Session Summary:
I started this session by asking some introduction questions: What did you do this weekend? and What are you excited for this week?
For our pre-reading activity, I asked opinion questions about the Mona Lisa to activate Rider's background knowledge. I showed videos and images of the Mona Lisa. Then, we watched a video titled "The Mona Lisa's fame Explained in 90 Seconds". We watched it through twice.
For the reading activity, Rider read a passage about the history and lore of the Mona Lisa. We went through the paragraph defining unfamiliar words after he read it once initially.
For the comprehension activity, I asked a variety of comprehension questions, including critical thinking questions, to assess Rider's understanding.
Lessons Learned about Teaching:
Providing as many resources relating to subject matter will make it easier for students to comprehend the more academic material.
