Tutoring Je-ah - Session 7
Today, we talked about brainstorming. I asked her if she’s ever heard of brainstorming, and she said yes. I still defined it and told her why it was important and useful for writing. I walked her through some examples of brainstorming exercises and asked her to provide some alternative examples to the ones I provided. Then, we practiced brainstorming.
We talked about music and good music. Then, I showed her the prompt: What is the name of your favorite band and why are they your favorite? Write three sentences. I gave her 5 minutes to brainstorm, and she chose to free write. It was challenging for her, and she was editing as she wrote, which slowed her down. However, we continued on to writing. I showed her my example, and she wrote her sentences. I had to give her some minor corrections, and I explained to her most of the corrections. Then, I commented on the content of her writing.
We moved on to our next brainstorming practice after that and ran out of time before we got to writing. However, she said brainstorming was hard, so we decided to brainstorm some more via discussion next session.
