This initial tutoring session focused on evaluating the student’s background, language skills, and learning goals in order to better understand her needs and establish a direction for future lessons.

The student, Wei is originally from China and has been living in the United States for about two years. She currently lives alone, which limits her opportunities for practicing conversational English at home. Outside of academics, she enjoys watching movies, traveling, and drawing.Wei is studying English to improve both her academic and everyday communication skills. She enjoys speaking and using English to interact with others, and she finds that interactive speaking activities and watching videos have been the most helpful methods in her language learning so far.

In terms of goals, the student identified clear short-term, medium-term, and long-term objectives. In the short term, through tutoring sessions, she hopes to strengthen her speaking, listening, and writing skills. By the end of this year, she would like to see noticeable improvement in her speaking fluency. Looking further ahead, within five years she hopes to achieve full fluency in English, with strong comprehension, listening, and speaking abilities.

Regarding her learning style, she responds best to visual and interactive approaches, such as videos, films, and active communication. She does not currently use English often outside of school, which highlights the importance of creating opportunities for practice during tutoring sessions.
