Guerna CO #1

Date/Time: June 23rd,  1:00-1:50

Topic/Skill: Speaking Skills (giving a presentation) (Beginner)

Teacher Presentation: The teacher used clear pronunciation and a calm, clear tone when speaking. There was a strong use of hand gestures to support communication and keep beginner-level students engaged. The teacher simplified vocabulary and definitions when necessary and provided clear explanations. Students were assigned a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation project, with the freedom to choose topics of personal interest, which encouraged motivation and autonomy.

Classroom management: The teacher made sure to circulate the room, checking in on students to confirm their understanding and keep them on task. Students were encouraged to actively participate, but expectations were balanced—tasks were not oversimplified, which maintained an appropriate level of challenge and effort.

Materials: Textbook, PowerPoint, whiteboard

Feedback Provided:

  • Encouragement to make presentations personal by choosing topics of interest

  • Clarifications through repetition and simplified definitions

  • Prompts to stay engaged and interact more deeply with the material

Lesson(s) on teaching I learned:

  • Use hand gestures and clear speech to enhance communication with beginners

  • Offer students choices in assignments to build engagement and ownership

  • Balance support and challenge, simplify explanations when needed, but don’t make tasks so easy that students can disengage

  • Regularly check in with students during activities to ensure they understand and are on track
