    Class Observation 4

    Grammar - Group 4(Advanced)

    Dr. Angel Rios - 10-10:50am

To start the class Dr. Rios greeted the class and took attendance, he also played some fun American artists like Katy Perry in the background which I enjoyed. He then asked the class to pull out their textbooks to review some sentences they had worked on last class. He then went through each sentence, which they were supposed to combine two pieces of information together to make one sentence. He works with the class and discusses grammar rules/patterns to help explain where they go wrong in each sentence. He also ensures they know there's different ways to write the sentences correctly within correct grammar rules, which I noted as important because some students (myself) do tend to want to find the "right" answer, and stress that there is only one. He also asks them to read these sentences aloud, correcting them and helping them with their pronunciation kind of doubling this as a speaking exercise.

After that he did an exercise with the class, where each student comes and picks a piece of paper that has a noun written on it. Then the student is to create and say a sentence with an adjective clause and see if the class can guess the noun based on their sentence. He helps them correct their sentences throughout the activity and he does a great job at fostering a fun comfortable environment.

After this he instructs them to get out their phones for a Kahoot game on adjective clauses. He stops if there is anyone who gets a question wrong and does a brief explanation on the answer. He also makes sure to explain possible new nouns or names like "teacher's pet" which happens to be an idiom. They did the Kahoot for the rest of the class period.
