Class Observation 3

Speaking- Advanced (group 4)

Ryan Flemming- 1-1:50pm

To start this class Mr. Flemming greeted everyone and touched on what they had discussed last time which was their 'controversial' talking presentations. These presentations are supposed to be neutral on a hot take, where a student presents a hot topic and asks the class their thoughts. He went over the agenda for the class and highlighted the assignment they were expected to complete as well as certain criteria expected. He stressed the use of hooks and evidence when doing persuasive writing as well as explaining your opinion with more than one sentence.

The class then began with a class discussion where one student presented his hot topic for 15 minutes. He gave a brief presentation with information on his topic before giving the class some discussion questions to answer. During this anyone in the class is allowed to input in any way but must be able to explain their opinion. The goal of this exercise was to get them talking in a discussion with different opinions, points of view, and ensure everyone participates. He then asked the class for things the student did well and could work on when presenting.  After this he gave students time to work on their presentation outlines, he walked around checking in and helping anyone who needed it ensuring they were clear on their project. They worked until the end of class time preparing to present next week.
