Skill: Accuracy in grammar and pronunciation
Today, I had planned to go over her homework if she had completed it. She told me she did but she lost it, so we planned to go over it next session. Then, I reviewed simple tenses and the present continuous tense with Je-ah. I had her describe some picture boards in each tense. Then, she wrote a short story progressing from past tense to future tense. She had only a few errors, and she understood and fixed her mistakes.
If I had to review grammar again with her, I would do a different exercise. It gave me a better idea of her familiarity with these tenses and gave her some writing practice, but it was not very interactive or fun.
As she read her answers aloud, I noted a few letters that she was not differentiating that really stood out. I explained that pronunciation is an important element of speaking well and that I'd noticed a couple sounds that she needed to practice. We practiced the <s> and <f> sounds with minimal pairs, and she could clearly use those with more focus on them. Then, we practiced short <o> and <u> sounds. Minimal pairs was a fun exercise, and I plan to add it to our sessions in the future as needed.
